Offline websites to take on a boat

This is my attempt in creating a repository of websites to take with me on boat trips. While leaning towards boaty stuff, it's applicable to other offgrid scenarios as well.

This makes heavy use of Kiwix and Zimit. Check the Makefile on how everything fits together.

There are some references to Nix but it's not required as long as you have docker and kiwix-tools installed.

Why are you stripping off the timestamps?

Zim files usually have the timestamp in their Filename - e.g. _2023_06.zim.

I decided to strip these of as to not re-download the websites all the time - mostly because it would be very poor form to re-crawl large websites every month.

Other resources / out of scope

• Zeal is great (better) for developer documentation resources
• Anything media-related (videos, music) is out of scope

TODO

• Add downloading zim packages that don't come from download.kiwix.org
• Add a way to build zim files containing boat hardware documentation and relevant books
• Add a portal page and some sort of service or image to run this for everyone in the lokal network and allow easy local distribution
• Wrap the crawling in Nix so they can be put in a CI and easily shared
• Add some essential Android APKs
